The event gathered AI experts to discuss this eponymous question at Arctic Frontiers.

The British ambassador to Norway, Jan Thompson, gave an opening remark on behalf of the UK Space Minister Liz Lloyd, which was followed by presentations on how to build AI models for satellite data and AI innovation in the Arctic and a panel discussion.

The expert panel drew on case studies to show how such a collaboration can help improve sea-ice prediction to enhancing environmental monitoring and maritime safety, and to discuss practical pathways for linking AI research with the priorities of Arctic operators and policy makers.

These experts convened for the side session:

  • Robert Jenssen, Centre Director at SFI Visual Intelligence
  • Kristoffer Wickstrøm, Associate Professor at SFI Visual Intelligence
  • Sara Björk, DevOps Developer at KSAT – Kongsberg Satellite Services and Visual Intelligence Alumna
  • Scott Hosking, Mission Director for Environmental Forecasting at The Alan Turing Institute
  • Victoria Nockles, Principal Investigator of the Defence AI Research Centre at The Alan Turing Institute
