The visit's background is the 10-year agreement between Aker Nscale and UiT to develop and strengthen AI competence and innovation in Narvik and North Norway.

Robert Jenssen presented SFI Visual Intelligence: a Norwegian Centre for Research-Based Innovation which researches and develops AI solutions in close collaboration with Norwegian industry and public sector partners.

Solveig Thrun and Christian Salomonsen, two VI PhD Research Fellows, showcased their projects and how these can contribute to more efficient and innovation-driven healthcare services in and outside Norway.

Thrun's project focuses on risk-based screening with AI for early detection of breast cancer in collaboration with industry partner Cancer Registry of Norway (Kreftregisteret).

Salomonsen's project uses deep learning to non-invasively estimate the arterial input function, a critical component of dynamic PET imaging which is required for drug development and cancer research. His project is done in collaboration with partner Universitetssykehuset Nord-Norge.

Associate Professor Kristoffer Wickstrøm presented our ongoing collaboration with industry partner KSAT – Kongsberg Satellite Services – which includes projects on sustainable oil spill monitoring and vessel detection.

Johannes H. Nilsen presented Abdera.ai: an AI startup formed by him and former Visual Intelligence master student Erland Grimstad. Abdera offers AI-driven solutions for moderating comment sections and discussions on social media and online fora.

UiT Innovation Coordinator Anna Dranovska told Tømmeraas about Medsensio: a health technology company which offers AI systems to automatically detect abnormal lung and heart sounds.

UiT Prorector for Research Jørgen Berge, Vice Rector Bente Haug, and Dean Bjørn-Morten Batalden was also present alongside Tømmeraas and Visual Intelligence's researchers for a fruitful discussion about the presented projects and startups.
