Three Visual Intelligence researchers promoted to professors

We congratulate Adín Ramírez Rivera (UiO), Michael Kampffmeyer (UiT) and Andrea Marinoni (UiT), who were recently promoted to professors at their respective universities.

Ramírez Rivera joined the Digital Signal and Image Analysis group (DSB) in 2022 and has extensive experience with Computer Vision and Machine Learning from universities such as Universidad Diego Portales, Reykjavik University and Universidade Estadual de Campinas. He describes his journey leading up to his promotion as a wild ride with ups and downs, culminating into a new beginning.

- I'm a little tired, but really happy. It has been a great two and a half years at DSB and I look forward to many more, Ramírez Rivera says.

Kampffmeyer is a principal investigator in the research challenge area "Limited training data". Since obtaining his PhD degree from UiT in 2018, he has visited internationally recognized universities such as Carnegie-Mellon University and Technical University of Berlin. He is working towards facilitating more effective and explainable deep learning approaches for Computer Vision, as well as developing solutions in different application domains such as medicine and remote sensing.

- It is a great recognition of the work that I have done together with my collaborators at UiT and international research institutions. I am highly grateful for the support that I have received from UiT, Kampffmeyer states.

Marinoni is a part of the Earth Observation group at UiT in Tromsø and a principal investigator in the "Earth Observation" innovation area. His research interests include efficient nonlinear signal processing applied to multimodal remote sensing, Earth observation interpretation, and Big Data mining and analysis for human–environment interaction assessment. Throughout his career, he has visited universities such as Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Sun Yat-sen University, and Instituto Superior Technico.
