Successful science communication workshop at Skibotn

The Visual Intelligence Graduate School gathered our early career researchers for a 3-Day Science Communication workshop at Skibotn field station outside of Tromsø, Norway.

By Petter Bjørklund, Communications Officer at SFI Visual Intelligence

The workshop's aim was to introduce them to the topic of science communication, provide practical tips for effective research dissemination, and refine their ability to present their research in engaging, informative and accessible ways.

The workshop, organized by Visual Intelligence's Communications Officer Petter Bjørklund, focused on these subtopics:

  • How to design popular science talks for a younger, non-expert audience.
  • Successfully pitching research to the news media.
  • A researchers' experiences with popular science and the news media – presented by VI Associate Professor Elisabeth Wetzer.
  • Communication planning and presentation technique.
  • Working with journalists and communication advisors.

The gathering also featured a social program with bonfire and barbeque in the chilly Arctic outdoors, karaoke, and traditional cabin activities like board games.

Thanks to the Visual Intelligence Graduate School board, Wetzer, and our early career researcher for three informative and enjoyable days at Skibotn.
