Congratulations to PhD Candidate Preetraj Bhoodoo, who recently won the Best Poster Presentation Award at the PRESIMAL Autumn Reserach School 2025.

By Petter Bjørklund, Communications Officer at SFI Visual Intelligence

The PRESIMAL Autumn Research School brings together Norway's leading research environments within precision imaging and machine learning – with a special focus on medical imaging across imaging methodes and diseases. This year's research school was held at Oscarsborg Hotel close to Oslo, Norway from October 15th to 17th.

Bhoodoo is a PhD Candidate at Visual Intelligence's hub at the University of Oslo. His project focuses on applying deep learning techniques to cardiac ultrasound imaging – focusing specifically on automating measurements from echocardiograms, assessing image quality, and leveraging recent advances in foundational neural models.

Bhoodoo's awarded research investigates whether state-of-the-art echocardiography foundation odels can accurately localize left ventricular contours when coupled with graph convolutional network heads without extensive fine-tuning, and how it compares with other architectures and training regimes.

With the award, Bhoodoo receives a 5000 NOK travel grant.
