The program will be available shortly. Please check back later.

VIGS to Skibotn field station May 3-5, 2023

VIGS is happy to invite you to a joint trip May 3-5, 2023! We aim to gather early career researchers from Visual Intelligence to collaborate and socialize for two days at UiT’s field station in Skibotn.

Visual Intelligence Graduate School (VIGS)

VIGS is SFI Visual Intelligence’s social and scientific initiative for early career researchers. VIGS consists of PhD students, postdocs, and researchers ++ from UiT, UiO, NR as well as early career researchers from SFI VI’s user partners.

We invite you to join our workshop week at UiT’s field station in Skibotn in indre Troms!

Skibotn field station

The University of Tromsø built a field station in 1980-82 to be used for courses, seminars, and lab work. The station is located in a scenic area with easy access to mountains and fjords, about 6 km from Skibotn and 130 km from Tromsø.

The main building includes a kitchen, dining room, living room, classroom, laboratory, and sauna. The facilities include audio-visual equipment, and wireless internet in all cabins and the main building.

The station has 38 beds in 2-, 3-, and 4-person rooms, spread over three cabins with 14 bedrooms.

You can read more about the field station at UiT's website.

Program

Our days in Skibotn will be filled with both a social and scientific program.

The social program will include fun and games, bbq on campfire, teambuilding, and of course include the typical “hyttetur” activities like cards and board games. Also, did we mention there is a sauna?

The scientific program for the field trip will include plenary sessions for everyone and more focused group work to connect people working on similar topics, data, or problems. Some examples might include reading groups, discussions groups, collaborative problem solving, crash course, and knowledge transfer.

The group sessions will expect participants to contribute, share, prepare, and collaborate on the given tasks.
